Michael Riley has been involved in emergency services since 2004 and with the Anchorage Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic since 2013. In 2018, he created and implemented the first Mobile Integrated Health Program at AFD focusing on high utilizers of EMS and providing assertive community outreach to help meet the needs of identified individuals. In 2020, he co-lead a team that designed and implemented a first responder based mobile crisis team to respond to mental health crises occurring in the community, this was a first in the state.
